Code of Conduct

Read Maier Sports' guidelines

For Maier Sports, it is more than moral and ethical considerations which make the observance of social and environmental standards the basis for our credibility. Maier Sports regards them quite simply as economical and ecological necessities. Because of this, the code of practice for cooperation with Maier Sports is set out for maier sports suppliers and their pre-suppliers in what is known as the Code of Conduct. Among other things, this binding agreement – in accordance with the respective local laws – specifies standards for such areas as wage rates, working hours, respect, health and safety, environmental protection, and a strict "no" to child labour and forced labour.

Outdoor enthusiasts are highly sensitive to their environment. Therefore, the fair origin of their functional clothing is becoming increasingly important.
"A further factor is that today's consumer is better informed than just a few years ago, as can be seen in the increased interest in organic products," explains marketing manager Götz Braun.
"Organic is not longer synonymous with ecological, but rather reflects a responsible awareness of one's self and the environment. A trend which is increasingly affecting other areas such as the conditions under which clothing is manufactured,“ continues Braun.
maier sports welcomes this development and has firmly embedded social responsibility to both its staff and the environment in its company philosophy.

The Code of Conduct stipulates the ground rules for cooperation with Maier Sports' own  contracting companies, suppliers and pre-suppliers throughout the world. Taking cultural aspects and local statutory regulations into consideration, the Code of Conduct sets important standards for different areas in the respective countries. Fair pay and working hours for the workers, as well as health, safety and hygiene standards based on local laws are anchored in it.
"All the operations with which we cooperate offer working conditions which are so good that I would go to work there myself straight away", emphasises company owner Gerhard Maier.
None of the Maier Sports products are produced in prisons, or made using forced labour or child labour. Furthermore, throughout the Maier Sports production facilities, it is a matter of course that all current environmental regulations are observed, and that the generation of waste water and refuse are avoided to the greatest possible extent. These regulations safeguard something of great value to the Maier Sports customers: The knowledge of having made a purchase which reflects a sense of environmental and social responsibility.
